March 4th[, 1865] Lou has been teaching all the week. Lou Powell came this afternoon and when I got everything fixed up washed and dressed myself and was in the parlor playing when Julia and George Brit came. He is right nice and she is sweet as possible. I got my cloak and furs last week and called on Saturday.
March 14th[, 1865] How this month is slipping [torn page] nearly a quarter of the year gone. O God my Savior [torn page] once love me, enable me to live nearer to thee help [torn page] to be more conscientious in doing my duty, show me [torn page] unfathomable riches of thy word and teach me how to pray[. I] feel so unworthy, so sinful, not fit to approach the mercy seat[.] Bring back to me once more those happy hours when I enjoyed thy love and forgiveness once so peaceful and joyous. Lou[,] Nick and Annie Willet ate dinner here to-day. Nellie Godfrey took tea with me last [in] company with Annie. Billie went up in Del[aware] and Annie slept with me. Julia came yesterday. I was sorry the girls were here. It would have been [word illegible] a chance to have a good chat. I went [words illegible] with her but it was so cold that I did not enjoy it and I had not put anything around me [word illegible] & I went to see her this afternoon.
March 15th[, 1865] Julia came along this morning [words illegible] and I took a nice walk in the woods. An advent [torn page] big heart, I do love her and she is so [torn page fragment here reads Yesterday mor] kind. She is coming to-morrow[.]
