Description
Glass plate negative of the historic house known as Clifton located at Ednor in Montgomery County , Maryland . Built by John Thomas in 1742 , the main house is a 1 1⁄2-story gambrel-roofed structure with walls of imported brick laid up in a "well-defined 'checkerboard ' pattern ". Attached on the near side is a gambrel-roofed lower wing . This picture is provided courtesy of E . R . Iddings . (Editor's note : Although no date is included with this item , this picture probably was taken at the same time period as the other pictures in this collection , thus the Coverage (Time Period) of 1900-1930 . Could this be the house from which the garden in item mhid007 was seen?)
