Description
Braddock Springs , situated near Braddock Heights . The inscription on the postcard claims that it was the place "where General Braddock of revolutionary fame watered his men and horses. " Although it is possible that General Edward Braddock (1695-1755) , his soldiers and horses indeed drank water from the springs , Braddock died twenty years before the American Revolutionary War began . His military fame came from his brief time as the commander of British forces during the French and Indian War , which resulted in his being mortally wounded in battle near Fort Duquesne (located in present-day Pittsburgh) . The fact that a young George Washington served as General Edward Braddock's aide-de-camp may be why Braddock came to be associated with the revolutionary period . The man and the boy posing on the postcard were not identified .
