Description
The "Old Sun Building " was built in 1906 to replace the previous version , i.e . the Iron Building , that perished in the 1904 fire . It was designed by two well-known Baltimore architects Ephraim Francis Baldwin (1837-1916) and Josias Pennington (1854-1929) . It was built at the cost of $289,206 and was located at the corner of Baltimore and Charles streets . The building had a baroque roofline , a stirring colonnade , two giant clocks on both ends , and stood four imposing stories high . Some people called it the most beautiful original architectural design of the time in Baltimore . Nevertheless , as the needs of publishing the newspaper outgrew the capacity of the building , it vacated in 1950 , and finally it was razed in 1964 to give space for the Charles Center .
