Pikesville 8, Maryland
Dear Janet:
On behalf of our Museum and its visitors (and, of course,
also personally), I would like to thank you for your willingness
to lend your new Arp bronze, Classical Figure, to our summer
exhibition of 20th century European paintings and sculpture
(July 6 to September 26). We understand that this bronze is
presently on loan to Johns Hopkins University and is exhibited
in the library there. Because of the long holiday weekend, we
would like to pick up the piece there not later than Thursday,
July 1 and we beg you to send us a brief statement containing
permission for the temporary transfer of the piece to The
Baltimore Museum of Art. I would appreciate it if you would send a
copy of this release to Johns Hopkins University in order to
avoid difficulties which might easily arise since you and I both
will be out of the country at that time.
After the termination of the exhibition, we will return the
bronze to "Timberlane"; from July 1 to that date, the sculpture
will be covered by our insurance from wall to wall at the value
of $25,000.—. The credit line will read: "Lent by Mrs. Alan
Wurtzburger".
With many thanks,
As ever yours,
