Description
Located in Norfolk , Virginia and built in 1739 , St . Paul's Church is the only surviving colonial-era building . The church , which is also referred to as 'Borough Church ', is built in the shape of a Latin cross of walls laid in Flemish and English bond . One distinctive feature is the inscription "1739 S.B. " in a projection of bricks located in the south transept . The materials to build the church are believed to be a gift from Samuel Boush , the first mayor of the Borough of Norfolk .
