Founded in 1730, Baltimore grew to become a major leader in shipping, transportation, and manufacturing. The celebrations were seen as an opportunity to highlight Baltimore’s achievements and honor people prominent in its history. Citizens not only enjoyed the music, parades, and beautiful decorations but helped prepare and took part in the festivities.
